so the new wordpress page is up.  and i hate it.  i know not what the hell i am doing.  soon i will just change the web address of this site and keep this.  i like it better.  maybe if i can teach myself html, MAYBE i will use wordpress.org.

i remember where i was when i read that Douglas Adams was no longer operating on this planet. i was in Edinburgh, Scotland at the Castle Rock Hostel, reading some tabloid. seems the OG hitchhiker finally caught a ride to elsewhere. hopefully it was not a passing Vogon ship that picked him up.

i am done with school.

….well, until next semester. but for now i have completed my spring semester. the second to last semester of my college career. (unless in the unlikely event that i become a masochist and decide that i would like to torture myself with grad school.)

apparently we are having issues with picture uploads. oh well, check it out on my flickr. it’s the cyanotype purse. i will write an ode to anyone who correctly guesses what the image is and will post it. if i have already told you what it is, no fair, you don’t count, mom. (oh wait, you probably forgot already. hehe. i’m a shithead.) to give credit where credit is due, i got the idea of a little contest from my favourite food photographer/blogger, Blood Sugar. not that it is the same idea, but Graeme got me thinking.

from far off in the land of nod, i think i hear something calling me. “make it stop. for the love of Zeus! make it stop!” it’s so loud now, i can’t even understand it.

the neighbor’s gdmf* Chihuahua starts barking adding to the noise. “wtf.” the conversation from days prior comes back into my head.

“yeah, so you know, we had to start sleeping with the window closed ’cause your dog barks all night.”

“oh, that’s just him telling me he’s done peeing.” neighbor launches off into some diatribe about how he lets the dogs out early morning, doctor said he should get a dog, being a preacher is soooo stressful, his boys aren’t bad-it’s the girls*, and blah blah blah…

i think he should maybe he should have listened to the gdmf dog and let it back in instead of letting it bark so long at 4am that i actually had time to NOT go back to sleep, get up, debate calling the cops, decide it will stop soon, decide after a few minutes that it wouldn’t, then called the cops. incidentally, by the time i hung up with the cops, the barking had stopped, 45 minutes later.

“MAMAAAAAAA!!!! I! HAVE! TO! PEEEEE!!!!!”

right. pee. my dictator has spoken.

thankfully, we made it to the bathroom on time. 2 empty bladders later, and 2 cheers of accomplishment, we got the boy back to bed and mom, well, mom gets to get up at 0500. on mother’s day. this is how i find myself blogging on an early sunday morning. i even got to the coffee my husband made before the machine turns itself off.

there are a lot of us moms who are on our own today. many of us have baby’s daddys that are working, deployed, or just non-existent. for the mother of a small child, this can make mother’s day seem like any other sunday. the small ones don’t get the idea that there is one sunday that we are supposed to make moms feel special and one where we make dads feel special. so maybe if you know a mom on her own, conspire with her kids to do something special today. or tomorrow! she might need to know she’s appreciated, ’cause the 3 year old on the potty has no idea that he was supposed to let mom sleep in today.

how incredibly DONE i am with school? not “technically” done you see…. just burnt the f–k out.

• i’m sick of the 52 miles each way
• i’m sick of due dates.
• i’m sick of not being able to find a healthy, reasonably priced lunch in Chico.
• i’m sick of assigned research. (i’m always looking up something. i’m just sick of having to do papers)
• i’m tired of leaving the house at 9am and getting home at 9pm. or later.

yeah, it’s my senior year.

so i try to appreciate the little things. i get 2 hours to myself each day during my drive. i listen to a lot of NPR, stand up comedy, new wave. thank Zeus for satellite radio. i was listening to Forum the other day and a guy, Jack Kornfield, was on the show talking about his new book. he talked about meditation and i found something he said very interesting. he mentioned going for a walk and how while walking, truly notice what is going on around you. notice the vivid orange of the California poppies. notice the ladybugs crawling on the lavender. notice the birds singing. just notice. while you are noticing, clear your head of all the toxic thoughts that cloud your noticing. this is a kind of meditation. (*disclaimer-i am totally paraphrasing and giving my interpretation of what he was actually saying. get the free podcast here) i guess the reason i found this so interesting is that i do this all the time. it is my saving grace at school. i literally have to stop myself from dead heading someone else’s plants, pulling their weeds, or redesigning their yard (in my head). i notice the trees and which ones are blooming and for how long. i like to stand underneath that weird tree outside the art building when in bloom because the bees L-O-V-E it and the buzz is almost deafening. ironically, it is a great way to quiet the mind. anyway, so my wish for you today, my friends, is to notice. quiet your mind and notice. spring is in bloom and there is a lot going on
